If one truly hates you, you could be successful or a failure, and they would still despise you. You could be gorgeous or hideous, and they would still hate you.

However, if you aren't taking care of your business on all fronts - managing your home, raising your kids, holding down a job, and being the best person you can possibly be whether you have an audience or not - you don't have haters. You aren't providing a reason for said hate.

Baby Boy turned 2!

So yeah, there are no more babies in this house! *tears*

I really miss the baby stage, but they can't stay young forever . .

Braggin' a little . .

I'm just so proud of myself because my braiding technique has DRASTICALLY improved! . . when my oldest son was a baby, I could not cornrow at all . . poor baby had links with rubber bands smh . . but I watched youtube videos and got helpful hints from students at school :) . . and I've been braiding non-stop ever since! . . I'm even considering letting my oldest son's hair grow out!

Yesterday, I did fishbone braids for the very first time on my youngest son's hair and I am IN LOVE with this look! . . I'm so proud, so I had to share!

Decisions, decisions . .

 

We all are faced with decisions that must be made on a daily basis . . what should I wear today? what should I eat for breakfast? should I go to work or call in sick? lol . . Some decisions are easier to make than others, but there is still a choice to be made . .

The beautiful thing about life is that we were each given our own to live . . which means that we are all entitled to make our own decisions according to what we believe is the best option . . but with these decisions comes accountability . . every decision has an attached set of consequences . . the consequences are what makes decisions so hard to make . . if I do this, then this will happen . . if I don't, then that will happen . . decisions like this stress people out every day . .

Then on top of just trying to figure out what to do - or the best way to do it . . some people get stressed thinking about what people will think of them because of the decision they made . .

I can admit that I used to be, and still am to a certain degree, the type of person that thrived on the acceptance of others . . I needed approval to feel like I was doing the right thing . . But what I have come to realize is that by giving others that type of influence over my life, I was living my life for them . . not for myself . .

I am learning to make decisions based on what's best for my family and what's best for me . . life is too short, so why live it unhappily . . when you break away from the norm and start "doing you," people will give you that look:  O_o . . but you must decide is your happiness worth a few awkward glances?

To me, it IS worth it . . and I will continue to make my decisions based on what I feel is best for me and my family . . regardless of what others may say or think . .

1st Day of School

So it's official . . My oldest baby has started school! *tear* . . It's a bittersweet moment for me because I'm forced to face the fact that my baby is growing up! . . There were tears on the first day - yes, Mama cried, too lol . . and aside from a small episode on day 2, the first week went rather smoothly! . . only 35 more to go! (I'm a teacher, so yes, I keep count! lol)

So today my blog received a "best blog" award! . . this is our first award!! . . So exciting!!! . . Thanks Toya!!!  **happy dance**

So while I'm here, I'll just give a little update about what's been going on in my neck of the woods . . the boys had their first experience at Vacation Bible School and they loved every minute of it! . . they had tons of fun and it was emotional for me to see them in that capacity . . now Sanje' is even more ready to start Pre-K!

I was taking a Basic Spanish class . . it was only a 2-week class, but I learned a lot . . 

I messed around and caught a little cold . . and I'm still struggling with a sore throat, a little cough, and my energy stays on zero . . summer colds are the worst!

But other than that, I haven't been up to much else . . I'm trying to decide what my next move will be with my hair . . I'm loving the natural and I think I can confidently say that I'll NeVeR go back to relaxers . . I was relaxer free for 2+ years before I did the big chop, so I can definitely do it, it's just more work - which may not be a good thing for someone like me! lol . . I'm actually contemplating getting locs, but haven't fully committed to that decision . . might just go with braids for a while and see how I feel about it later . .

In this life, we all have things that we wish and pray for - whether it be a nice house, a new job, a good man, or whatever it may be . . sometimes while waiting for the response to our prayers, we get caught up in envying things that others have been blessed with - not realizing that we, too, have already been blessed . . while we may not have everything that we've asked for, God has surely blessed us with everything we need . . so don't spend so much time envying the blessings of others that you miss your own! . . be thankful for the things that God has already blessed you with, no matter how small they may seem . . it is when we thank Him for the little things that He's able to bless us with more . .

Summer's Almost Here!

So finally I can count the number of school days we have left on 1 hand!! . . this seems like it has been the longest school year ever . . it's funny, but I swear teachers say the same thing every year! lol . . but I'm really looking forward to the summer . . not that I have anything planned, but just the idea of being able to spend the extra time with my boys and be a SAHM for 2 months! . . I'm stoked!!

A Little Encouragement . . Thanks Monica! :)

Girl, just look at you with your pretty self.  You are so beautiful!  Not only are you beautiful but you have the nerve to be talented and gifted by God.  Hold your head up girl and know that you are loved and appreciated.  Don't give the enemy any place to cause you to have low self-esteem or doubt.  You are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made.  This is your year to decree it and speak it!  This is the year of new beginnings.

     So, get your step on girl.  God is faithful to perform all that He has promised to you!  Be confident in Him and His word.  The words you speak from your mouth determine your outcome.  Why not speak good and positive things over your life girl?  You are not defeated, but you are more than a CONQUEROR.  You have been through a lot in your life and look at you now, just as pretty and as strong as ever!  Oh, how BLESSED you are.  Look what God has done and look where He has brought you from.  Begin to bless God and praise Him for all that He has done, and for making you so beautiful!  He had you in His precious hands all the time.

     Your life is orchestrated by Him.  He knows you and what is best for you.  Believe that He has even greater things in store for you and your family.  Girl, get over the silly stuff and grab hold of faith.  Seek God as never before.  Sure, times are hard but God is good.  Learn to love who He has made you.  There is no one like you.

Breast Cancer Awareness

I've had a heavy heart all day . . this morning, I found out that one of my co-workers passed away after a long gruesome battle with breast cancer . . RIP Mrs. Ann Daniel

This is a particularly sensitive subject for me because in Sept of 2008, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer . . after surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, I thank God that 2+ years later, she is cancer free!

I just want to stress the importance of seeing your doctor regularly . . get your annual physicals . . ladies, do your self mammograms . . early detection is key! . . if something doesn't feel right, don't ignore it, get it checked out!

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet.  He held up a sign which said:  "I am blind, please help."  There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by.  He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat.  He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words.  He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.  Soon the hat began to fill up.

A lot more people were giving to the blind boy.  That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were.  The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?"

The man said, "I only wrote the truth.  I said what you said but in a different way.  I wrote: 'Today is a beautiful day; but I cannot see it.'"

Both signs told people that the boy was blind, but the first sign simply said the boy was blind.  The second sign reminded people how fortunate they were to have their sight.  Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story:

Be thankful for what you have . . be creative . . be innovative . . think differently and positively.  When life gives you 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1,000 reasons to smile.  Face your past without regret.  Handle your present with confidence.  Prepare for the future without fear.  Keep the faith and drop the fear.  

It's a beautiful thing to see a person smiling.  But even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason for the smile!

Faith is not about everything turning out OK;  faith is about being OK no matter how things turn out.

Different Strokes for Different Folks . .

Some things I'll just never understand . . I guess it's just different people and different things we're accustomed to, maybe?

well I'm a member of a forum site . . and there have been numerous occasions where I have read posts written by women, talking about their husbands or significant others - rather harshly I might add . . now I know that sometimes we all need to vent . . but some of the things that these women say are just unreal to me . . like how can you pick an argument with your husband, then get mad when he retaliates . . how is it ok for you to say whatever you want to him, but then expect him not to say anything back . .

It just seems like a lack of mutual respect to me . . and that's not something I could tolerate, nor would I expect anyone else to tolerate it from me . . whatever happened to the Golden Rule? . . do unto others and you would have them do unto you . . think before you speak or act . . these seem to be things that are only talked about and not done . .

So this morning, I was told by a co-worker that I looked like I had lost weight . . O_o really?! LMAO! . . I'm trying, but not really trying . . but it doesn't feel like I've lost a single pound! . . but hey! I'll take the compliment! :o)

So today my youngest son, Kai'Ron, who is 16 months old, decided to take his own pamper off . . and after he had it off, he pointed to it and said "boo boo" . . which of course meant that he had left a little "present" for Mommy lol . . but just the simple fact that he took it off AND said "boo boo" is astonishing!! . . maybe someone's tooshie is ready to sit on the potty! . . maybe?

People always say "God is good" . . and truly He is . . but it takes a whole new meaning when you can say it and truly know first-hand that God is good! . . and an even bigger blessing is when you see your prayers being answered right before your eyes!

God has truly been good to me and my family . . and for all that He has done and all that He has yet to do, I just want to say "thank you" . .

People are a trip . .

I hate it when people think you're doing well financially, they feel it's okay to ask you for money . .

So what had happened was . . today I went to the store . . and yes, we stunt in a Ram on 24's . . what can I say? we like to look good! lol . . but anyway, I put my bags in the truck and was pushing the cart to the buggy rack (I don't know what it's really called but you know what I mean lol) . . but out of nowhere comes this man talking bout "hey, you know me, don't you?" . . I'm thinking to myself, I don't know you, but I've seen you around . . but he commences to asking me for some money so he can go buy some cigarettes . .

Now my issue is: I work hard and I'm paid enough to live comfortably, but I have a family of my own to provide for . . sorry if it sounds selfish, but I don't care about your baby needing pampers; I have a baby of my own to buy pampers for . . any other day, you act like you don't know me, so why should I "loan" you money to get your prescriptions? . . and I don't smoke, so why should I support your habit?

People are a trip . .

All That Glitters Isn't Gold

I think it's interesting how sometimes people embellish their lives to make things appear better than they really are . . and even so, sometimes we as humans wish that our situations were just as good, if not better than someone else . . not even realizing that things may not be as good as they seem . . see, people only show what they want you to see . .

Prime example is the married couple that appears so loving and happy in public, but at home, act like they can't stand each other . . another example is the person who claims to be so in love with the perfect mate, but turns out the whole relationship is nothing like they portray, or even non-existent . . or the person that's always dressed to kill, pushing the hottest whip, living in the tightest crib - but you'd never know they can't even pay their bills . .

Again, people only show what they want you to see . . it makes them feel better about themselves if they know that other people think everything is wonderful - even if it's not . .

So I always say:  be careful what you wish for . . because all that glitters isn't gold!

Don't worry about other people . . people will say and do things for attention . . some people just do things to get a reaction from you . . but don't give them the satisfaction! . . what God has for you is for you . . so continue to live your life . . thank God for your blessings and appreciate them every day . . don't get caught up in jealousy and envy . . you don't know what hell they had to go through to get what they have . . or what hell they're going through to keep it! . . think about it!!

I really hate it when someone does something for you, then every chance they get, they throw it in your face . . Really? . . if I had known you were gonna carry it like that, I would've just held out until I could handle it myself . . That really irritates me . .

Then I hate it when people feel like they can say or do whatever they want, but then as soon as I speak my mind on something, everybody wanna feel some kinda way about it . . and I don't call people out or put nobody on blast - even though I really could - I don't do that . . But everybody wanna feel like i'm talking about them . . Well if a general statement can make you feel that way, then maybe you need to do a self-evaluation and fix whatever the problem is . .

*sigh* . . It's too pretty outside to be feelin like this . .

Feeling great . .

So this morning, I woke up a little sluggish - which is usually the case because I am soooo not a morning person lol - but once I got going, I actually felt great! . . got to work and still felt great! . . so I think it's safe to say that I'm over my little illness, finally! #thankGod . . but during my illness, I made a vow to myself that I would start taking better care of myself - eating right, making healthier choices, exercising - the whole 9 . . and so far, I've done a good job at disciplining myself and making wiser choices where food is concerned, but it's still a work in progress lol . . chocolate is definitely a major weakness for me, as well as caffeine, and we all know that temptation is a mutha-shut-yo-mouth lmao! . . but overall, I must say that I do feel a lot better physically . . and hopefully soon I'll be updating you on some significant weight loss! *fingers crossed*

1. I hate the fact that I’m “too nice” . . and I hate that people know how to use it against me . .
2. I hate being misunderstood . .
3. I hate telling someone how I feel . . then having them tell me that my feelings are unjustified . . whether you agree or disagree, how I feel is how I feel . .
4. I used to have a hard time telling people “no” . . now I can easily say “no” . . but I hate feeling guilty afterwards . .
5. I hate know-it-alls . . you can’t tell them anything, especially if they’re wrong . .
6. I hate people who pretend to be what they are not . . just be you – whoever that is!
7. I hate physical violence . . to me, it’s pointless and solves nothing . .

I’m drawing a blank so this concludes my list for now . . may add more to it later . .

What I'm about to post is something that I wrote a little over a year ago . . it all started because I was angry at someone who shall remain nameless :o) . . and I wanted to write something to put the other person on blast! lol . . but you know it's amazing how the Lord works! . . what resulted was the following passage that shows how the enemy will use us to bring each other down . . take a peek:

Have you ever been having the most perfect day, and then all of a sudden, something bad happens?

You wake up feeling great!  Positive outlook, good mood – then you get a ticket on your way to work.  Or your spouse or your kids pluck your last nerve.  Or you get a phone call or text about some nonsense.  Or folk on your job trippin’ for no reason.  The list could go on and on . .

We have all had days like this!  It’s neither coincidence nor irony.  It’s not even bad luck!  It’s the devil!

The devil’s main mission every day is to take your focus off of God, and he will use anything and anybody to accomplish his goal.  He will use your spouse, your parents, your best friend, even your children!

It is very easy to get caught up in the devil’s antics, but a battle with the devil is one that we cannot win on our own.  Just when you think you’ve got “one up” on him, he’ll hit you with that low-blow that rubs your flesh the wrong way and turns all of your positivity into mush.  Now you’re fussing and cussing – acting like a fool, and he’s laughing because his mission was successful!

“Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”  James 4:7

Although it will feel so good to curse so-and-so out, punch whoever in the mouth, or just do something extremely crazy – the relief is only temporary and on most occasions only adds fuel to the flame.  The best solution is to just take it to God in prayer, and leave it there!

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”  1 Peter 5:7

Let Him fight your battles for you!

“If God be for us, who can be against us?”  Romans 8:31

Even if your flesh gets the best of you and you “go off” – all is not lost!  We serve a forgiving God!  He always gives us another chance to get it right!  All we have to do is just pray for forgiveness and repent, and then the slate is wiped clean so we can start fresh and try it again.  The devil will taunt us of our mistakes, but God forgives and forgets!

“ . . for God is love.”  1 John 4:8

“ . . [love] keeps no record of wrongs.”  1 Corinthians 13:5

Thank God for forgiveness!!

Continue to be positive and strive to attain all that God has promised you.  Even when we fall short, Jesus picked up the slack when He died on the cross!

10 Facts About Me . .

I used to love doing these little surveys for MySpace . . I still love to do them because they allow you to search within and learn more about yourself, but then you also get to share parts of you with others . . so this one is simply 10 Facts About Me . . here goes!

• My birthday is October 3! . . and most of the facts about Libras ring true for me!
• For years, my favorite color has been red . . but now, I have a thing for hot pink . . and I love animal prints, specifically zebra - hence the background!
• I'm a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc . . so some of my sorors may be slightly upset concerning my love for the color pink! lol
• I love to eat . . but hate to cook! Go figure! lol . . but despite not liking to cook, I can hold my own in the kitchen!
• I LOVE CHOCOLATE!!!
• I hate bugs of any kind! . . except butterflies - if you consider them bugs! lol
• I love watching Disney movies . . probably more than my sons! lol . . Finding Nemo is my absolute favorite!
• I'm afraid of the dark! lol
• I'm a teacher! :) . . high school math, to be exact . . Algebra, Geometry, Trig - almost 10 years under my belt!
• I'm a music junkie! . . I listen to mostly R&B (especially from the 90's), but you might catch me bumping some hip hop in the whip! lol . . I'm also a DC go-go head . . and can't forget my gospel music!

. . 'cause it could've been worse!

The Battle is the Lord's . .

So lately I have had a heavy heart . . worrying about this, that, and the other - the normal stresses of life . .


As a Christian, I have been taught not to try to carry my burdens alone, but to "take them to God and leave them there" . . He's your problem solver, your burden bearer, your heavy-load sharer - all of that! . . and trust that there is no doubt in my mind! . . even if God doesn't perform the miracles I pray for, I know that He's able! Amen!


But yes, I've been taught to take my burdens to the Lord and leave them there" . . and this is so much easier said than done . . because we as humans like to see an instant (*snap*) resolution to our problems . . the "do it, Lord, but do it now" mentality . . but we all know that God doesn't work that way . . "He may not come when you want Him, but He'll be there right on time!" . . but it's in His time . . so He makes us wait . . but it's what we do during the wait that means the most . .


Do we start to doubt Him, or do we continue to believe? . . Do we hold fast to His promises, or continue to try to fix it ourselves?


I believe that there's nothing God won't do for His children . . if we just have faith and believe . . then after we believe, let go and let God . . hold on to our faith and commit to our trust in Him . . but not only that - thank Him in advance . .


God didn't put us here on this Earth to struggle . . He wants us to be blessed beyond measure - pressed down, shaken together, and over-flowing . . He wants us to have the desires of our hearts . . but we must realize that the struggles that we have - the battles that we fight - are not ours . . they belong to the Lord . . and the quicker we realize that, and operate in it . . the easier our lives will be . .


I really didn't mean to preach tonight, but I realize that I'm speaking more to myself than anyone else . . but I hope that someone else gets blessed by this message as well . .


Remember, the Battle is not yours . . it's the Lord's!

Can't believe it's been 4 years . .

. . since the day I became a mother . . you heard it right! . . my oldest son, Sanjé Amir turned 4 years old today!! . . so to celebrate, I created a slideshow of some of my favorite photos of him to share with you . . watching this slideshow brings tears to my eyes . . it's amazing how much he has grown . . and it has also made me realize that my little baby isn't a baby anymore . . oh, how I wish he could stay little forever!

The beginning . .
